Crowns/Caps, Onlays & Inlays
We've Got You Covered
Naturally Beautiful Solutions for Restoring Problem Teeth
If you're self-conscious about your smile because of cracked, broken,
decayed, or worn teeth, we can restore a healthy, natural-looking smile
for you by applying dental crowns/caps, onlays or inlays to the problem
teeth. In fact, with today's technology, materials, and advanced techniques,
we can actually bring those teeth back to their original shape and function.
For example, for smaller areas requiring a filling, we can apply an 'inlay'
made up of a composite resin material that actually bonds with the tooth
structure and prevents further damage to the tooth. For larger problem
areas, we can either apply a protective coating/filling called an 'onlay'
where decay has taken its toll; or a porcelain 'crown' or 'cap' that provides
coverage over the sides of the tooth as well. Designed to fit snugly and
function as normal teeth, crowns/caps protect your teeth from further
damage and preserve the your jaw's correct natural alignment. And with
today's precise, natural-color matching systems, all porcelain crowns/caps
are often preferred over precious metals. However, we're convinced that
it's best to choose a material based first on the functional stress the
tooth must endure, and then consider esthetic concerns.
Preparation & Customization
Dr. Henbest can easily evaluate your specific situation to determine
which of these restoration treatments are most appropriate for you. Depending
on the degree of restoration required, we can typically design and fit
your crowns/caps, inlay or onlay in two simple steps: preparation and
application. First, Dr. Henbest will carefully numb your mouth and prepare
the recipient teeth by gently removing the outer portion. Based on years
of experience, he'll carefully and judiciously eliminate any decayed or
damaged areas, while also creating the proper shape and size to accommodate
your restoration. If you're receiving an inlay, he'll go ahead and place
the composite resin filling material, harden it with a special light,
and shape it according to your natural dentition.
In the case of crowns/caps or onlays, he'll make a precise mold or impression
of your teeth and send it to our special professional dental laboratory
so that the specialists can produce a custom-fit. Typically, the production
process requires one to two weeks, during which we'll protect your teeth
and gums by fitting you with temporary acrylic resin crowns.
Application & Preservation
Once your restorations are ready, Dr. Henbest will remove the temporary
crowns, then carefully fit and adjust the permanent ones into place. Then
he'll take some time to carefully evaluate them for appearance, color
match, bite discrepancies, and accuracy of fit. When he's satisfied with
these criteria, he'll cement the crowns to each of the prepared teeth.
Once Dr. Henbest has applied your crowns, you'll need to protect the base
from bacterial growth by conscientiously brushing and flossing them. And
of course, it's imperative that you maintain good professional care of
your crowns through regular check-ups at our Rogers, AR office.
